Original etching, drypoint and aquatint on Japon paper. Hand signed in pencil “Käthe Kollwitz” by the artist, lower left. Also signed by the printer Otto Felsing, lower right. From the fourth state of five, according to Knesebeck. Edition published by von der Becke between 1931 and 1941. This work, for which there is no evidence allowing a precise date, was assigned by Lehr, Sievers and Klipstein to 1892. As with most prints created before "A Weavers' Revolt" - and undoubtedly also because of its scratches - for a long time the artist did not consider selling proofs of this print. This is confirmed, too, by Sievers' remark that old proofs were rare. |
