second state of three with the slipt stroke on the
back, from the Basan recueil. Sheet: 5 11/16" x 3 3/4" Catalogue reference: Bartsch 41, Usticke 41 ii/iii David, identified only by the harp lying on the ground, kneels before his bed in prayer, completely given over to God. The subject is generally taken to be David praying for the life of his mortally ill son by the wife of Uriah (11 Samuel 12). |
