Griffon was born in Toulouse, a town in Southwest France. He is best known for allegorical and genre paintings; his garden scenes and his ‘fêtes galantes’ remind one of the 18th century works of Watteau, but interpreted in a post impressionist, fluid and ethereal manner. His palette is clear and fresh and his brushwork is subtle yet assured. Today, his work is in collections in Paris, London, New York, Boston and Geneva.
